Bitwise notified NYSE Arca on September 10 that it would close and liquidate the Dogecoin ETF, ticker BWOW. For holders, the immediate question is how their fund position will end, not whether the Dogecoin network will stop. An ETF is a separate investment vehicle; its sponsor can close the product while the underlying coin continues trading elsewhere.
Trading and cash distribution happen on different dates
The sponsor's announcement expects October 14 to be the final trading day. The SEC filing says secondary-market trading stops before the market opens on October 15, with liquidation proceeds scheduled around October 22. Those are different steps. A quoted share price before the cutoff need not equal the eventual cash amount after the portfolio is sold and costs are settled.
What to check in your brokerage account
Net asset value, or NAV, is the value of the fund's assets after liabilities, divided by its shares. If a hypothetical holding contains 100 shares and the final payable NAV is $12, the starting cash calculation is $1,200; that example predicts neither the actual NAV nor the tax bill. Selling earlier also depends on the market bid, spread and broker charges.
Read your broker's corporate-action notice alongside the filing and preserve purchase records. The filing describes cash distributions as taxable events, but the treatment of an individual account needs its own assessment. Do not send funds to anyone claiming that an extra payment is required to unlock this distribution.
